Executive Orders

Executive Orders are interesting, They bypass Congress and override established laws.

I am thinking of three that were recently signed. In May, an Executive Order was signed stating that any natural or unnatural disaster that occurs, either in the States or world wide, which effects the economy of the United States, the President can take over Congress. This was written in conjunction with the Patriot Act, which very few members of Congress bothered to read. I wonder if Congress realizes, by rubber stamping the Patriot Act, they were, in effect, signing away their children's and grand children's rights.

The next one I am thinking of, which I believe was signed in June, rescinds the law that forbids soldiers or National Guard from firing on American Citizens. In case anyone does not remember, this law was violated when National Guard fired on, and killed, four peaceful Vietnam War protestors at Kent State, in Ohio. A very famous song was written about it. It was also one of the turning points against President Richard Nixon, for ordering this to happen.

The third, recently signed - in July - states any two or more people, that discuss and/or protest the handling of the Iraqi invasion, can and will have all their assets seized by the government. I believe this is a very broad, albeit deliberate misinterpretation, of the Sedition Act.

Our media did not feel these Executive Orders were important enough to mention to the public in general. I feel they are. I wonder what Executive Order will be issued in August.

I wrote a fictitious story called - What If. This was a figment of my imagination. There are things I wrote about which are now coming true. I hope the rest of the story does not.
